​CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL NEWSLETTER 2023

​It’s that time of year once again, and the thrills of Cheltenham are upon us!

We kicked it all off bright and early yesterday morning with Alan Brazil hosting the TalkSport Breakfast Show from our Owners’ Suite. This is always great fun and a brilliant way to start the Festival week, with myself and Jonjo Jnr being interviewed live on air.

We have fantastic and busy times ahead, welcoming owners and friends here at Jackdaws, to start their Festival days in style. There is always a great craic and it’s always a pleasure to see everyone dressed in their best, and in high spirits while enjoying some champagne and canapes!

Hopefully, we have eight runners across the week, with a couple of real live chances. We all know how tough it is to get a winner at the Festival, but we are confident they will all give a good account of themselves. You can read about each of the runners below

OUR FESTIVAL TEAM

MONBEG GENIUS
ULTIMA HANDICAP CHASE • TUESDAY

He did well last season and but he has  seemed to take a real step forward over fences. Staying chases seem to be his forte. He runs in the Ultima , it is a very competitive race and whilst he is still improving, we feel he should take his chance.

EASYSLAND
CROSS COUNTRY CHASE • WEDNESDAY

A horse that certainly knows his way around the Cross Country course at Cheltenham. He has been disappointing in the later years of his career. The aim for him is the Cross Country again and we hope that this will reignite his spark.

PRINCE ESCALUS
GRAND ANNUAL • WEDNESDAY

​We were delighted with his win at Wetherby the other week and this should tee him up nicely for the Johnny Henderson. He is first reserve and we are hoping he will get into the race.

BEACHCOMBER
CHAMPION BUMPER • WEDNESDAY

This son of Bathyrhon got off the mark at Chepstow when winning his bumper in good fashion. We were delighted for Mrs Wills and we are excited that he goes for the Champion Bumper.

AN TAILLIUR
PERTEMPS HANDICAP HURDLE • THURSDAY

An Tailliur had an outstanding season last year winning the best Novice Hurdler award at The Jockey Club Awards. He qualified for the Pertemps in October and he will go there all being well.

COEUR SEREIN
KIM MUIR CHALLENGE CUP • THURSDAY

He ran well last time when winning nicely at Newbury. We're hoping a strong run race over 3m 2f should hopefully suit him.

PETIT TONNERRE
COUNTY HURDLE • FRIDAY

He has ran well in good handicaps this season. He is dropping back to two miles for the first time in a while and we're hoping a race like the County will really suit him.

COLLECTORS ITEM
ALBERT BARTLETT NOVICES' HURDLE • FRIDAY

Collectors Item has had a very good season winning twice and just very narrowly beaten in a Grade Two at Haydock last time out. He enjoys soft ground and a race like the Albert Bartlett should really suit him.

CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL SALE
THURSDAY 16TH MARCH

​The Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale offers an abundance of successful Point To Pointers and Horses in Training, and is held in the Winners’ Enclosure after racing on the Thursday. 

The atmosphere is electric and our team will be there looking for our next Festival hero! We have enjoyed some great days with horses bought here, such as Sky Pirate who won for Martin and Iwona Tedham at Cheltenham in 2021.
