NEW SPONSORSHIP
Jonjo O’Neill Racing has entered into a new sponsorship agreement from 1st September 2019 with the Wasdell Group.
The Wasdell Group has expanded significantly in the ten years since Martin Tedham bought the core company. Now the biggest independent contract packer in Europe, and an increasingly important player in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, Wasdell has its headquarters in Swindon with further facilities in Newcastle, Wellingborough and a recently opened new-build factory in Dundalk, Republic of Ireland.
Group chairman, Martin Tedham, who has long had an interest in horse-racing said “the Wasdell Group is delighted to increase its involvement with Jonjo O’Neill Racing. We have had horses at Jackdaws Castle for a couple of years now and look forward to an enjoyable collaboration with the racing legend that is Jonjo. Jonjo, Jacqui and their team are well-placed for the future as they have been building up the string with an impressive influx of young horses. It is a privilege for Wasdell to work with a yard that is at the forefront of training
establishments, with facilities that cannot be bettered and an estimable work ethic which reflects Wasdell’s commitment to innovation and quality.”
Jonjo O'Neill said "We are absolutely delighted that Martin has come on board to sponsor the yard through the Wasdell Group. We have enjoyed massively successful partnerships with previous sponsors Eddie Stobart and Jewson; we now look forward to another exciting era and to rewarding Martin for the faith he has put in the team at Jackdaws."
RECENT WINNERS
It's been great to get a few winners in the last month or so.
Notawordofalie put in an impressive performance in the bumper at Kelso on Wednesday evening making it 4 winners from our last 11 runners.
It was brilliant to see Jonjo O'Neill Jr. return to the track at Worcester this week after the injury to his jaw, and it was even better to see him partner Phoenix Rock to a 6 length victory in the Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase. Huge congratulations to The Successio Partnership!
It was well worth the long trip up to Perth with Mustmeetalady winning the 2m7f Old Mout Cider Garden Handicap Chase by 20 lengths with Jonjo Jr. on board for owner Diane Carr.
As You Like and Richie McLernon brought up our 12th winner of the season with a 1¼ length victory in the 2.30 Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot, and we didn't have to wait long for our 13th when Present Chief gave us an Owners Day winner with victory at Worcester for owner Pat Hickey, after a great ride by Richie McLernon.
Transpennine Star completed the quartet of victories when impressing at Hexham after an incredible ride from the Champion Jockey, Richard Johnson.
It was fantastic that our new era of sponsorship started on such a exciting note with 2 winners from our first 2 runners!
SUMMER LUNCH AT JACKDAWS CASTLE
We hosted a fantastic Summer Lunch for our owners here at Jackdaws Castle on Sunday 1st September with the announcement of our brand new yard sponsor, the Wasdell Group.
Guests enjoyed canapés and a drinks reception on the lawn in the top yard before heading to the indoor school for the parade of their horses, hosted by Jonjo and Roger Hart.
Champagne continued to flow during the parade of the horses for sale, after which we made our way down the gallops for a lovely steak lunch in the marquee at Jonjo and Jacqui's house provided by the brilliant Wesley House team.
PARTNERSHIP MORNING
We invited all of our Syndicate & Partnership owners here to Jackdaws Castle on Saturday 7th September.
Guests enjoyed a drinks reception and breakfast canapés in the Owners' Suite before heading out on the lawn for a parade of their horses.
All of the riders wore the silks as the owners watched their horses on the gallops and then returned into the yard to take some photos with their horses.
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
As this newsletter is covering the late summer months, we would like to announce our July and August Employees of the Month awards.
Congratulations to our treasured Head Lads, Johnny Kavanagh and Alan Berry who won in July for their continued hard work and support in running the yard. Without dedicated individuals like this, the industry would be a poorer place.
In August, our Estate Manager Federico was called away due to unforeseen circumstances and Florin "Fred" Mirea stepped up to continue to maintain Jackdaws Castle to its highest standard.
