Sole Ownership

Sole Ownership

Sole Ownership is a very popular way of enjoying the thrills of racing. Many of our owners love the sport and have found having a horse a natural progression from being a spectator. Few things give us a bigger sense of satisfaction than when we help a new owner realise the ambition of having a winner.

Costs of Ownership

We are frequently asked as to the costs of becoming an owner. It’s not possible to be specific about all charges, as different horses have different requirements at various times. However, some that you should be prepared for include: the purchase of your horse, training fees (which include stabling, exercise and feed), farrier fees and veterinary costs. Additionally, every registered owner has to set up an account at Weatherbys, a company based in Northamptonshire, who act as Racing’s Secretarys. Weatherbys deal with jockeys’ and entry fees and also distribute prize money.

All VAT is recoverable on the above. Our team will advise you how to do this.

Obviously, the aim is to offset some of the costs by winning prize money! Ultimately, though, having a runner is the major thrill of racehorse ownership; a feeling of being in the thick of the action, together with a sense of anticipation and an involvement that you can never experience as a spectator.
