Shirocco (GER) ex Lughnasa (IRE)

This strong, precocious Shirocco gelding is a really nice horse to look forward to, with a good frame and plenty of bone, like another of his progeny, Minella Rocco, who has done so well for us, winning at the Cheltenham Festival and also coming 2nd in the Gold Cup.

He is also out of a Westerner mare from the family of top class Black Jack Ketchum, who also won at the Cheltenham Festival for us and at Aintree. A fine chaser in the making.

Shantou (USA) ex Galshan (IRE)

This lovely Shantou gelding is a very sporty looker and the sire has had great success this year with the The Storyteller winning at both Cheltenham and Punchestown.

He is also out of a mare by a very popular broodmare sire, Anshan. This gelding looks like he could come to hand quite quickly.

Please email us on reception@jonjooneillracing.com for further information.

 Pedigree

Fame & Glory (GB) ex Native Sunrise (IRE)

This gelding by the most exciting sire around, Fame And Glory, having produced two bumper winners at this years Punchestown festival, as well as one of our own horses we are very much looking forward to having won his bumper also, Kitikat, is a big, racy, sleek and very athletic individual.

He is also out of a mare whose half brother won 8 times with plenty other winners in the family. He is a very exciting prospect and we are very much looking forward to getting going with him.

Please email us on reception@jonjooneillracing.com for further information.

 Pedigree

Mahler (GB) ex Norah's Quay (IRE)

This gelding has had his pedigree boosted significantly throughout last season, when his half brother, Mr One More, has possibly some of the best bits of form last year. Mr One More beat none other than Summerville Boy in his maiden hurdle at Stratford. Summerville Boy went on to win the Grade 1 Tolworth at Sandown and the Grade 1 Supreme Novice’s hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Further to that, he then beat Lalor at Ascot next time out, Lalor went on to win the Grade 1 Novice hurdle at Aintree in April. Injury prevented Mr One More running to the end of the season but is sure to be an exciting horse for next season. We are hoping that this gelding, by a much more fashionable sire, Mahler, has every chance of emulating his brother.

 Pedigree

Beat Hollow (GB) ex Temptation (FR)

This Beat Hollow filly is very strong, with plenty of chest and shoulder, she is a half-sister to the ultra-consistent 140 rated Princely Player and successful mare Tara View. She is a gorgeous looking mare and has a very good temperament to go with it, we are looking forward to getting rolling with her, especially with the revamped and upgraded mare’s programme that has been recently introduced. She will also be of value as a broodmare after her racing career.

Fete Kabyle (FR) -  Martaline ex Beni Abbes

Fete Kabyle Martaline / Beni Abbes Filly This Martaline filly has come from a successful family in terms of the Derby sale in its history. Her half brother, Dinons, came 2nd, only beaten a length, in the €100,000 Derby sales race at Fairyhouse the following year. Her other half brother, Antoing, was successful at Auteuil, the most prestigious jumps track in France. She has a lovely way of going about her and again could be very interesting the mares programme that has been revamped in recent years. She will also be of value as a broodmare after her racing career.

 Pedigree

Fame And Glory (GB) ex Hapeney (IRE)

Fame And Glory has been all the rage this year, with bumper winners coming out of everywhere and point to point victories to come with it. The two valuable bumpers at Punchestown this year were both by Fame And Glory and we also had a lovely Fame And Glory that won for us first time out also, and this is his first year of 4 year olds. Unfortunately there is only limited stock of a few crops from Fame And Glory as he has sadly passed away. This gelding is a half brother to Henry De Bromhead’s ‘Three Stars’ who is a dual Grade 3 winning hurdle and now rated 145. Having such a successful close relative to this gelding, we are hoping the Fame And Glory side will bring out extra improvement to this gelding’s career.

Black Sam Bellamy (IRE) ex Any Pearl (GB)

This strapping Black Sam Bellamy gelding had all the respected connections of the bloodstock world interested, his size and scope means he will be looking for a fence no doubt. He is from the family of Hollie’s Pearl, who was victorious in the 2015 Mares Bumper at Aintree, and has been successful over hurdles regularly since. He really is an exciting horse to be looking forward to for the future.

Fame And Glory (GB) ex Accordion Lady (IRE)

This flashy gelding showed himself really well at the sales and took all of our attention. He really pulls himself together and works his body nicely. His brother, Mister Hotelier, was a very successful horse himself, winning a Grade B Handicap Chase amongst others. We were delighted to get this gelding and he looks to be very forward and hopefully be running in bumpers sooner rather than later.

Oscar (IRE) ex Jordell (IRE)

There have been plenty of this gelding’s relatives come through Jackdaws Castle with plenty of big races pinned to their name. Having been successful with other Oscar’s, with the likes of Black Jack Ketchum, we were keen to acquire another one from this years sale. Not only does his Sire help this geldings cause, but from the dam’s family, there has also been Crocodiles Rock, who was victorious in the hugely respected Grade 2 Open Bumper at Newbury, John’s Spirit, who won the, what was then known as the ‘Paddy Power Gold Cup’ at Cheltenham in November, and also multiple winner Mad Jack Mytton. We have been very successful with this family in the past, and this Oscar looks as if he will continue this trend.

Please email us on reception@jonjooneillracing.com for further information.

 Pedigree

Annie Mc (IRE)

Annie Mc is a fine 16.1hh 4 year old filly by Mahler. She has solid, consistent form in Ireland, when she was beaten on her last start (13th May) at Bartlemy when she bumped into a graded mare called Silver Forever. In her first run on 22nd April at Dromahane, she was second to Honeysuckle (who made €110k euros at the Goffs Punchestown Sale). Annie Mc was the second horse in the ring and represented good value. She is a big filly, who still looks rather weak and will benefit hugely from the summer grass. As you will see from her pedigree, there is black type including the top class hurdler Princeful.

Youmzain Star

Youmzain Star has some very smart form as a two year-old in France and is a very good-looking and athletic three year-old colt who walks and trots extremely well. He looks like a jumper.

He ran four times as a two year-old showing very strong form:

  • He won a 7-furlong maiden on debut
  • He finished third in a 7.5-furlong conditions race on his second start beaten a short-head by Louis D’Or (who finished third in the French Derby this year) and the winner was Sacred Life who finished the year as the highest rated two year-old in France.
  • He then finished second in a 1m1f conditions race; the winner went on to win a Listed race and finish third in a Group-3, the third horse went on to win a Group-3 and finish fourth in a Group-2, the fourth horse went on to win a Listed race, the fifth horse went on to finish third in a Listed race, so the form of the race is sensational.
  • He then won his fourth start easily by 2½-lengths in a 1m1f conditions race

His three runs this year have not been quite as good, but he has certainly shown plenty of zip early in his races before probably holding a bit back for himself in the latter stages of the races (which is why he will hopefully return to his best form once gelded), nevertheless he finished fifth on his latest start in a 1m4f conditions race recently and the third horse from the race won a Listed race by three lengths last week so the form is good.

I think this is an exciting juvenile hurdling prospect by a sire in Youmzain who has good hurdlers in the UK & France with the likes of Charli Parcs and Saglawy (Willie Mullins’ Grade-2 winning and Grade-1 placed juvenile hurdler last season who most interestingly is by Youmzain out of a Shamardal mare just as Youmzain Star is).
