On Saturday we had runners at three meetings - Haydock, Warwick and Ascot – most of them performed well with Champagne At Tara finishing third in the valuable intermediate Handicap Chase at Haydock, and also Walk Waterford and Sebastian Beach finishing in the money at Warwick. Storm Melody also ran an encouraging first start of the season at Ascot, finishing 5th in the big field Handicap.

However, Sunday was an even better and sunny day with Festive Affair winning the valuable Handicap Chase at Ludlow in great style, jumping like a buck all the way and holding on at the finish. His syndicate owners “Four The Fun Of It Partnership” have had great fun with Festive Affair – this is his third win in the last 12 month and he’s only been out of the money once. Hedley Lamarr again ran a nice race finishing second for the Hitchins Family in the valuable Novice Handicap Chase.

On Monday 15th May, Pleasure Dome ran well finishing second at Kempton for owner John Turner and Quarenta was third for the Broughton family.

Tuesday was a busy day for us with three meetings. We kicked off with the afternoon meeting at Warwick with As You Like winning the Handicap Hurdle in good style, followed by the evening meetings at Southwell and Chepstow. At Southwell, The Tailgater won nicely, his second win of the year and also numerous placings for Paul and Clare Rooney. At Chepstow on the flat, Knight Destroyer ran a race full of promise for Diane Carr, finishing second in his first Handicap.

We are busy here at Jackdaws Castle and Slade Barn (our second yard) with our annual task of washing, cleaning and painting all our stables.

Its holiday time during the quiet period, lots of members of staff are taking the opportunity of getting some sun.

Good news that Holywell has settled in to his new home in Ireland, he’s obviously enjoying the sun in the country of his birth!
