JULY 2020
PROUD OF MY TEAM!
Hello to you all,
I hope you are all still staying safe and well. Things are beginning to feel a little bit more normal now but there's still a way to go.
There's no better place to start than talking about my team who were awarded the Lycetts team Champion Award. It's an incredible achievement and brilliant that they get recognised in this way. I see it first hand how hard they work and I'm delighted for all of them. A special mention must go to Jo O'Neill who worked tirelessly on our application which, so I'm told, received record marks. I'm very proud!
It was great to see the return of jump racing at Southwell on July 1st. Thank you to everyone in the industry who helped get racing back. We can't wait to enjoy it with our owners again very soon!
June was marred by the two tragic deaths of both Liam Treadwell and Rose Paterson. Liam was a lovely lad and a brilliant jockey. Rose was an amazing lady and is such a loss for Aintree. She helped transform the Grand National to what it is today. My thoughts are with the family and friends of both of them.
Best wishes,
LYCETTS TEAM CHAMPION AWARD WINNERS!
We were absolutely delighted to win the Lycetts Team Champion Award for yards with more than 40 horses!
This is an incredible achievement from the whole Team who go above and beyond to ensure all the highest standards of employee management, including safe working practices.
The team have won £4,000 and are looking to create a social space for them to enjoy out of work hours. We will keep you updated with the progress of this!
To win a recognition award as well as the overall award was quite a double whammy. Recognition of our policy encouraging personal and career development for our staff means a lot to myself and the management on the yard. We’ve all known challenges when on the career path and for us to make sure we can give the opportunities and support to our staff in whichever area of racing they are interested is of great value to us, as it is a proven fact that happy staff make for a productive and happy yard. We are delighted to work alongside the Northern Racing College and British Racing School graduate schemes.
Huge congratulations to each and every one of them!
PERFECT CITY WINS AT UTTOXETER
It was brilliant to get our first winner of the season with Perfect City and Jonjo Jr. winning the Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter on Monday in the colours of Mrs Fitri Hay.
They survived a slight stumble at the last to see off Emma Lamb by 1½ lengths.
Jo O'Neill and Lauren Hay, daughter of Jim Hay, travelled to Uttoxeter with the horses and picked up the prize!
Below are some wonderful photos from the brilliant Nigel Kirby.
And a couple of our own!
You can watch the full replay of the race by clicking on the link below.
ENTRIES & RUNNERS
It was great to welcome jump racing back at Southwell on July 1st.
Lauren and Jo took both Tidal Watch and Extreme Force and said that it was brilliantly managed.
All horses get showered upon arrival and stable staff all wear face masks.
We reiterate what Jonjo has said above and thank everyone in the industry who has helped get jump racing back.
We were all delighted with Itoldyoutobackit on his first run over hurdles. He jumped very well and raced keenly but finished well in second place. We will look for another juvenile race with him.
Demon D'Aunou ran OK on his comeback run after being off for six months over 2m4f. He was with the pack coming into the straight but got found out for a bit of pace and he will come on a lot for this run. He has proven tricky to master but Richie was happy with him and we might go over fences next.
Phoenix Rock runs over 2m7f at Market Rasen this afternoon. She has been schooling and working well and we would hope she goes close. She seemed to thrive over jumps last season and we would hope she can improve again - she is entered at Doncaster Sales at the end of the month.
FAIRFAX SADDLES
We welcomed the wonderful Fairfax Saddles to Jackdaws Castle last week to film a video of our team using their equipment.
Fairfax Saddles is known for its scientific research work and for products which have improved the performance of Team GB horses at the Olympics.
Fairfax's Race Training System of saddle, bridle, girth and pad are proven to significantly reduce pressure and de-restrict the horse’s muscles at gallop, leading to increased power and stride length.
We hope they will give us the edge this season!
